We keep research software running when funding ends.

When the funding ends, what is often left is a prototype that nobody is responsible for. We take it over, make it stable and keep developing it.

In short

Research projects often build software that nobody looks after once the funding ends. The people who know the code move on, and the results are lost. We take over the software while the team is still there, make it stable and keep it running. If it should become a product, we prepare the spin-off.

When it fits

  • Your project is ending, and the software should keep running.

We take over code, access and knowledge before the team leaves.

  • Your research project needs a website the institute can maintain itself.

As with the Ferdinand-Steinbeis-Institut: we build and run it, your team maintains the content.

  • A research result should become a product.

We prepare the spin-off and keep building the product with you.

What we take over

Transfer check
We review code, data and usage rights and tell you what the software needs.
Clean-up before funding ends
Documentation, tests and a proper handover while the developers are still there.
Continued operation
Servers, updates and further development after the funding ends, at one of three levels.
Spin-off
If the result should become a company, we co-found it, as in venture building.

How it works

  1. Check

    one to two weeks

Afterwards, you know what the software needs.

  2. Handover

Code, access and knowledge come to us while the team is still there.

  3. Operations

We keep the software running and keep developing it.

Frequently asked questions

When should we start?

Before the funding ends. While the people who know the code are still there.

Who owns the code and data afterwards?

We clarify that in the transfer check, before we take anything over.
